[ Later that afternoon you will find not one, but two Soujis making their presence known in the town square. Standing on benches near the fountain, they both have books open and seem to be reading from them, projecting their voices over the wide open area. There's an open journal by their feet, simultaneously broadcasting it over the network. Wonder what they're doing? Why not take a closer look? ]

[laughing] Okay, here is one of my favorites:

[DRAMATIC CLEARING OF THROAT and speaking loudly enough for the entire plaza to hear]

春の花五色までは覚えけり

Of the spring flowers
I have remembered up to
The fifth colour.

Shi-sen-gumi? [ Clearly a question. Ikki's used to browsing the journals, and whenever something trips her up, she generally just asks right off. ]

When Hijikata yells, all Souji can do in response is just ~~bark with laughter~~ give a super loud laugh. Oh, he's running fast! Which is probably going to kick his ass in a few moments here but he's bookin it!!

Japan. ...Earth, I suppose. [ it's not everyday Souji talks to someone not from his own world or one closely related. Well, this'll be fun. ]

Oh, Japan! I know a few people from there! Masaomi says lots of people are from lots of different Japans, and I do know lots of people from Earth. With the animals that are split up! I'm from the air nomad nation, 'cept probably more properly Republic City. It's not your place!

[Well, that settles that. What's worse though - with her just standing there, that makes her an accomplice, doesn't it?!

[ He's got the first part (yeah, learning firsthand that there are definitely multiple Japans, even down to the same people), but it's when she starts talking about air nations. He'll just roll with it for now. ] Of course. You're pretty knowledgeable, yeah? That's good, for a kid your age.

The good thing about this infuriating situation is that Hijikata has practice thanks to Souji's previous antics. But he's never really been one to look on the bright side.

When Okita begins reciting another poem (and on that note, why? is his humiliation really that important to you guys that you'd run at top speed AND recite poetry WHILE terminally ill?), Hijikata lunges for the book, not quite wise to what the plan is.]

[obviously, Selphie, you have not hung out with him enough.

He looks at her as she seats herself and listens to his twin give a reading. He considers and nods, applauding.]

Yes, that is one of his better ones.

[It's so short though but it sounds comical as she laughs a bit at it. Maybe it's just the way that it's being read but the two Sanji's have amused her. Although if they want to, they can shove her into the fountain like good little disobedient Shinsengumi.]

What's the style of that poem called anyway?

[A few beats of silence. Consolation is kind of an awkward party when you don't know the other person, so...]
